What to Do if Someone May Have Been Poisoned
For Any Poison Exposure
- Stay calm.
- Call Poison Help right away at 1-800-222-1222.
- Do not wait for symptoms to appear—experts are available 24/7.
Types of Poison Exposure
- Swallowed something harmful
- Got something in the eye or on the skin
- Breathed in fumes, vapors, or gases
Call 911 First If the Person:
- Is unconscious or difficult to wake
- Is having a seizure
- Is not breathing or struggling to breathe
- Has chest pain or severe symptoms
Important Safety Information
- Do not induce vomiting unless specifically instructed by Poison Control.
- Syrup of Ipecac and activated charcoal are not recommended for home use.
